Last weekend Hesperia Junior High hosted our annual iExpo. The purpose of Hesperia Unified School District’s Imagination Expo (iExpo) is to inspire students to become next-generation innovators and leaders. Each Challenge at iExpo is open-ended and enables students to learn and experience the creative and engineering process from imagination to innovation. While working to solve our Challenges, teams learn 21st-century skills (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, citizenship, and courage).
Thank you to Hesperia Junior High and their staff for hosting, to the parents for attending and cheering on the students, and to the coaches and teachers for getting the kids ready to compete.
Congratulations to our winners and a job well done to all the teams that participated. We look forward to next year's event!

For today's #SchoolSiteHighlight we are going Cypress and Mr. Scroggins' class to get a view of how he teaches SEL (social emotional learning). Every morning all Cypress teachers lead instruction on character traits that align with a CASEL competency trait. This month's character trait is responsibility, and the CASEL trait is responsible decision making. Mr. Scroggins' class is doing a blooket assignment and classroom discussion on responsible decision making, informed decision making, and prioritization. Today's lesson also emphasized the importance of involving parents in the decision making process. Thank you to Mr. Scroggins for welcoming us to his class and for all you do for our students.

HUSD Student Services Department asked every school to select two Student Services All-Stars for third quarter who were identified as hard-working and positive forces on their campus. To honor these Student Services All-Stars each student was presented with a goodie bag of treats, a free large pizza, and cinnamon sticks courtesy of Hesperia Pizza Factory, and their names entered into an end-of-the-year drawing for $50 Amazon gift cards courtesy of Horace Mann Insurance Insurance.

For today's #SchoolSiteHighlight we are going to Canyon Ridge High School and visiting their esports program which is taught by Mr. Rodriguez. They play a variety of games including chess, Brawlhallah, Minecraft, Rocket League, Valorant, and Overwatch. Thanks to Mr. Rodriguez's dedication and passion the program has grown from 6 students in the 1st year to 29 this year. The teams compete in the HSEL (High School Esports League) and there are many college scholarship opportunities available to those that participate. Here is a video made by student Matthew Biendara that highlights the program and was submitted to HSEL and was so well received that they featured it on their website and 52 other schools followed Matthew's lead and made their own videos highlighting their esports programs. https://live.myvrspot.com/iframe?v=fNmRmYzVmZWI5MjZiYjk1NzQyMGMyNTA0YTEzYjlkYjA
