Hollyvale Elementary's Preschool program won the Victor Valley Business Hall of Fame Best Preschool of the Year for 2023. This is the 4th year in a row that they have won the award. Teachers Ms. Morales & Mrs. Marquez, Aide Ms. Peneda, Asst. Principal Mrs. Elgan and Principal Mrs. Sayre are very proud of their program and their students. Keep up the great work Hollyvale Hawks!

Mr. Smith's IT Essentials class at Oak Hills High School had several students gain valuable work experience by interning with our very own HUSD IT department. Bulldog students Chrystal Garcia 11th grade, David Olson 11th grade, and David Vazquez 12th grade presented to the class about their experience so that students could consider being a part of the program in the future. Special thanks to our IT department for mentoring today's students for tomorrow's world.

Oak Hills High School’s Army JROTC battalion has been ranked as Honor Unit with Distinction (HUD) following a recent evaluation of the program. Every three years, the JROTC program undergoes a rigorous accreditation inspection and only a score of 95 or higher out of 100 earns HUD recognition. 2013 was the last time the battalion earned this distinction. Honor Unit with Distinction earns the program a special sash addition to their flag, and all cadets wear a special gold star on their uniform as recognition of the achievement. Cadets from Honor Units with Distinction also have an advantage when applying for ROTC scholarships during the college application process. This is something that OHHS JROTC Battalion Leader, and current 12th-grade student, Miss Danielle Mitchell, knows as she recently went through the college application process herself. Miss Mitchell is also a recipient of the prestigious National ROTC Scholarship and will be attending Cal Berkeley in the fall on a full ride. Congratulations! to all the students on their achievements.

This week is School Nurse Appreciation Week. We are so thankful for our school nurses and all they do to keep our students happy and healthy. To kick off the week we are recognizing our district-level nurses, Brenda Harris-Mague, Sandra Salas, Anja Easter, and Shayla Savchenko. Some fun facts about our nurses: Brenda used to raise and show fancy rabbits, Sandra loves spending time in nature and photography, Anja is also a photographer, and Shayla enjoys cooking. We also asked them what they like most about nursing. Brenda said it's making a difference in the lives of others. Sandra said it's making people feel genuinely cared for. Anja said it's the opportunity to keep a whole community healthy! Shayla said it’s making a positive impact in people’s lives. Thanks for all you do!

For today's #SchoolSiteHighlight we are going to Eucalyptus Elementary. Mr. Brown and Mr. Stuart lead the production of the daily announcement video for the school. With the help of 5th grader Zaara, 6th grader Cristal, 6th grader Nicholas, 5th grader Samantha, and 5th grader Julieta, the team uses software like OBS and green screens to make their videos. These videos contain things like birthdays and events for the school.
