HUSD Coronavirus/COVID-19 Informational Release
March 12, 2020
Attention Hesperia Unified School District Students and Parents:
As of 8:30 a.m., March 12, 2020, there are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in San Bernardino County. The Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), California Department of Public Health, and the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health have NOT recommended school closures in our area at this time. As such, there are NO current plans for HUSD school closures. HUSD officials are maintaining clear communication with public health and education offices to maintain safety for all of our students.
In keeping with Governor Newsom’s March 11, 2020 policy announcement to slow the statewide spread of COVID-19, all HUSD non-essential gatherings of 250 people or more will be postponed until April 1, 2020 or later. Non-essential gatherings of less than 250 people will only be allowed if the event location allows for social distancing of 6 feet or more. HUSD would like to remind our stakeholders that there are still 0 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our county, and these steps are purely statewide precautionary actions.
HUSD urges all parents and students to stay informed via reputable informational sources during these concerning times. Parents and students are urged to visit the San Bernardino County Public Health website at sbcounty.gov/dph, the California Public Health Department website at cdph.ca.gov, and the CDC website at cdc.gov.
The HUSD Emergency Preparedness Leadership Team continues to strongly urge stakeholders to practice the following illness prevention strategies:
Frequently wash hands for 20 seconds or more with soap and warm water.
Stay home when/if sick (per HUSD district nurse guidelines).
Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
Cover your mouth and nose with your sleeve or a tissue when coughing and/or sneezing.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick (Social Distancing: keep 6 feet of personal space from someone who is coughing or sneezing).
Consult with your doctor regarding other preventive measures.
HUSD continues to value the education of our children as an essential and vital service to our community. We are committed to providing the safest learning environment possible. We will continue to refine protocols for our schools and share more information with our stakeholders as it becomes available.
Sincerely,
Hesperia Unified School District
