HUSD staff met with various education law enforcement departments including our very own HUSD Police Chief Hinojos, Sergeant. Bacor and Corp. Smith and shared successful strategies and efforts to promote community policing and keeping our schools safe. Special thanks to all of our amazing Officers who work tirelessly to protect our schools and neighborhoods everyday. We appreciate you!
In honor of Veteran's Day, HUSD schools and offices will be closed Friday, November 10th. Schools and offices will re-open on Monday, November 13th.

Hey students, do you want a chance at winning $1,000? If so, the Elk's Lodge Americanism Essay Contest could be your ticket! Any 5th-8th grader can submit a 300 word or less essay on "What the Bill of Rights means to me" by 12/14/23, with a completed cover sheet (see attached), for a chance to win. National winners can win up to $1,000! And there are also cash prizes and a free award ceremony dinner for local winners as well! Here is one of last year's local winners, RMS student Kealoha Soto. Today's #SchoolSiteHighlight is at Hesperia Junior High School and their Digital Design class where Mr. Arrowsmith's students were working on their minimalist art projects. It's awesome to see students using new digital tools to creatively express themselves. Amazing student work and a fun learning experience!
Today's #SchoolSiteHighlight is at Ranchero Middle School and this week is their Project Based Learning week. This year's theme is Zombies. Where the entire school engages on zombie themed learning in all classes. Today in PE students got to do the zombie run. RMS staff showed up early to set the course up. Students ran the course while avoiding the ASB students dressed as zombies and other obstacles. What a great way to make the mile run fun! Special thanks to Mr. Santos, VanHulzen, Westlake and Ms. Hernandez, Verrett and the ASB students who made the event possible!

Last week for our #schoolsitehighlight we went to RMS the day of their haunted house. Mrs. Romero and Ms. Hernandez with the help of the ASB students put together RMS's 11th annual haunted house. The kids were taken to Knotts Berry Farm on a field trip for inspiration for their haunted house and they really took it to another level. Great job students!

HUSD hosted the third annual Believe Conference. The Believe Conference brings students and the community together to motivate and inspire students to overcome adversity and encourage their college and career goals. We had over 450 students attend from both HUSD and VVUHSD, and had special speakers which included HUSD Superintendent Dave Olney. A special thanks to Cynthia Thoele, our district social worker, for putting the event together, and to Diana Chapero from VVUHSD for co-hosting and recruiting for the event. Also, thanks to all the vendors and sponsors. A big milestone was achieved by one of our Oak Hills athletes. Keonahi'ilani Solaita reached her one thousandth volleyball kill/score on October 3rd versus Serrano High School leading her team to the 2023 Volleyball MRL Championship. Congratulations to Keonahi'ilani on the monumental achievement and to the whole team for their accomplishments. Way to go Bulldogs!
