CHOICE SCHOOL NEIGHBORHOOD PRIORITY

Families that live very close to one of the three (3) HUSD Choice Schools qualify for optional priority enrollment and/or placement on the waiting list.  If your family lives within these optional neighborhood boundaries and you wish to pursue choice school enrollment, please contact the choice school in question to get more information and turn in a transfer request.  If you do not wish to pursue choice school enrollment the traditional school that services your address will always be available for you and your students.

Eligibility:

Open Enrollment

Families living within the optional neighborhood boundaries defined above may receive priority enrollment during the annual open enrollment period.  Eligibility will be phased in over time to avoid displacing students already enrolled.  The implementation plan is as follows:

24-25 TK & K
25-26 1st Grade & under
26-27 2nd Grade & under
27-28 3rd Grade & under
28-29 4th Grade & under
29-30 5th Grade & under
30-31 6th Grade & under/full implementation

Waiting List

Families living within the neighborhood boundaries defined above who apply outside of the annual open enrollment period and/or who have students who’s grade level has not yet phased in per the implementation plan defined above may receive priority placement on the waiting list.

Priority Protocol:

Priority 1**:

Transfer requests for students who reside within the optional neighborhood boundaries for the choice school in question and/or children whose parent/guardian are employees of the district who work at the choice school in question. 

Priority 2**:

Transfer requests for students who reside within district boundaries, but outside of the optional neighborhood boundaries for the choice school in question and/or children whose parent/guardian are employees of the district.

Priority 3**:

Transfer requests for students who reside outside district boundaries.  Priority 3 applicants should recognize that space availability for this tier is extremely limited.

**Preference, within priority tiers will be given on a case by case basis for children who have siblings currently attending the choice school in question and other situations in accordance with CDE guidance.

Students Who Do Not Take Advantage Of The Optional Neighborhood Boundary:

Students who live within a choice school’s optional neighborhood boundary, but elect not to seek enrollment in that choice school or choose to disenroll from the choice school at any time will be offered enrollment at the traditional school which provides services to their home address.

Choice School Student Transfer Status

All choice school students, regardless of priority status, are considered transfer students and are afforded all the rights of any other transfer student.  Transfer students are not offered bus transportation unless otherwise required by law.
